The
‘Mary, Mary’ porcelain doll has blonde hair and blue eyes.
The
Porcelain Doll named ‘Mary, Mary Quite Contrary’ is based
on the well-known nursery rhyme of that name.
This
porcelain doll has blonde ringlets and a very sweet face.
The doll is dressed in lemon satin with a deep frill at
the hem. This frill is made of lemon cotton fabric, printed
with a design of small pink, white and lilac coloured flowers.
Above the frill is a layer of deep lace all around the hem
of the skirt. The same cotton fabric is used round the neck
and cuffs of this doll’s dress.
‘Mary,
Mary’ porcelain doll wears a white apron edged with lace
and hand embroidered with two sprays of flowers. It has
a band of lemon-patterned fabric, as before, which is fastened
at the back and decorated with a ‘cockle shell’ button and
ribbons of lilac and green. The bonnet for this doll is
lemon satin at the back and has a brim of the cotton fabric.
It is edged with white lace and tied with green and lilac
ribbons.
‘Mary,
Mary’ porcelain doll would not be in character without her
‘silver bells’ and ‘cockle shells’ and these can be seen
decorating the skirt just above the frill. There is also
a silver bell at her waist on each side of her apron.
This
porcelain doll, dressed as ‘Mary, Mary’ has her watering
can in one hand and a plant in the other. She is all ready
to go and see how her garden is growing.
