well-known French beauty, mistress of Louis XV. The clothes
worn by this porcelain doll are based on those shown in
the famous portrait of Madame de Pompadour painted by Francois
Boucher in 1759.
The
overskirt and bodice are of amber coloured silk crepe adorned
by heavily ruched ribbon. The sleeves of this doll’s dress
end just above the elbow and are finished with deep treble
ruffles of amber chiffon and a bow of bronze ribbon. This
same chiffon fabric, which has a beautiful sheen to it,
is also at the front of the skirt forming a deep panel finished
off with delicate ruched ribbon. The bodice of this porcelain
doll’s dress is completed with three shiny bronze bows.
Round
her neck, ‘Madame de Pompadour’ porcelain doll wears a ruched
amber coloured ribbon. She has pearl earrings and carries
a fan in her left hand.
This doll wears a white, hooped underskirt, trimmed with
amber lace.
